Module 3 - Introduction to the Module 3 - Internet Class Script
The purpose of this session is to introduce the student to the Internet. The following will be introduced and discussed:
- What is the Internet?
- How the Internet is used in everyday activities.
- The issues and considerations involved with security, personal identification and privacy when using the Internet
Advice
- Technology is a tool for learning, communication, research, and creativity .
- How has technology effected you? This show the level of PC/Internet usage.
- Peer to peer teaching. If student asks “How to do it””, see if other students know.
- When introducing new technologies, do it in the context of larger projects that extend over many sessions. In this way, you can first introduce the conceptual skills (e.g., drawing on paper before drawing on the computer), then slowly introduce each piece of equipment or software. Students will benefit from a progressive introduction to how to use the tools, and repetition builds support for their understanding.
Aproximate time:
30 minutes

What is the Internet?
- The Internet is a way in which computers all over the world can communicate with each other. They can communicate through telephone wires, cable, sattelite or wireless.
- A program called a browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox) is used to communicate over the Internet. The browser uses Web pages . A web page has a name (URL) (i.e., www.google.com)
- Some great uses of the Internet are Email, Instant Messaging, Mailing Lists (Groups, Forums), voice over Internet (Skype).

There are rules
that you must be aware of and be careful to deal with responsibly.
- Know who you are communicating with. Always make your information private, never public. Only invite friends who you know,
- Never put personal identification about yourself on the web. This information is viewed and shared with everyone.
- When you get older and order things through the Internet, you always have to know who you are giving the credit card number, bank account number to. Do you trust them?
