The purpose of this site is to promote and inform the blind or visually impaired middle school/high school student of the opportunities in an Information Technology career.
- The "careers" pages points to pages that describe, in detail, the career path and the necessary qualifications. Also a statement of the accessibility requirements of the job.
- The "Learning Programming" pages have a step by step guide to learning each of the most used by industry programming language and software. This includes: setting up your system; and, the online tutorials.
Today and more so in the future, IT (Information Technology) is a rewarding, lucrative and exciting career path. As Information Technology expands and becomes more pervasive throughout society, many job opportunities are becoming available.
The objective of this web site is to:
- Describe, in detail, each of the major career opportunities in IT.
- Promote input from me blind/VI IT professionals to help individual understand the requirements and environment of that profession.
- List and advise of the tools that are available and where to get more information. Include experiences of the blind/VI users.
- Educate potential employers on the viability of hiring a blind/VI person by addressing real and perceived issues when employing a blind/VI IT person.
- Give information on what education is required for each of the career paths. And how to acquire it.

Information Technology Career Paths
There are four general areas of IT within a typical corporation: Operations support , Business Applications, Development programming and Tools Development.
- Operations support is the organization which keeps the computer hardware, networks, databases and software running on a day to day basis.
- Business applications contains the jobs keep the business functioning. This area contains: programming, business analysis, report generation and analysis, product manufacturing and development.
- Development programming is programming which creates programs as a product. Typically this is a software company; but, many companies develop both products and software for sale.
- Tools development and support can be in any of the above areas. It's placement is usually where the major tools are developed/supported. Tools are Libraries which maintain programs and source code; design applications and general programs used by most of the areas.
